Above the Fold · What foreign press tells its own public · a Monadnock Cyber summary · 10 October 2026

Most foreign-cyber reporting is written for the domestic reader. This digest reads each monitored country’s own press, in its own language, and records what it tells its own people about cyber and AI — the key point first, then the reporting: named actors, figures, sectors, official statements. Framing is the source’s; state media is identified as such; a country’s silence is itself recorded. All items are filed and cross-indexed for correlation.
Global cyber weather remains turbulent, with AI-driven attacks and ransomware campaigns intensifying.
Ransomware tempo remains high, with 176 total victims reported in the past 7 days, mostly from thegentlemen (37) and qilin (17) crews. AI-powered attacks are increasingly prevalent, with autonomous agents skimming payment cards and AI-accelerated exploitation techniques being used.
China is actively engaged, with a focus on AI governance and military-civil fusion. Russia is building on its cyber-kinetic precedent, while Iran is driving OT-destructive attacks. North Korea is also active, with a recent high-profile crypto-exchange theft attributed to it.
The underground picture is characterized by a substantial and continuously collected corpus of stealer logs, breach dumps, and PII, with no figures or magnitudes available.
Brazil's press reported on AI-powered attacks on South Korean banks, while South Korea's press highlighted AI-based penetration testing tools. India's press warned of online advertisements and a cyber scam. Iran's press discussed AI governance frameworks. Japan's press reported on a ransomware attack affecting 495 customers. Poland's press highlighted vulnerabilities in Dayforce Payroll software. Türkiye's press detected a new variant of the DarkSword spyware.
Pressure is building around AI-driven attacks, with multiple countries framing AI as both a threat and a governance priority. The rise of hacktivist activity, particularly from Russia-aligned and Iran-aligned collectives, is also a concern.
Confidence level: moderate (2+ categories). Gaps: Our collection does not cover the exact counts of credentials, PII, stealer logs, breach records, or onion pages, which are strictly protected.

iVerify, a security firm, has detected a new and more advanced variant of the DarkSword spyware, dubbed P7 DarkSword, which targets outdated software and allows access to sensitive data.
P7 DarkSword was discovered on an iPhone belonging to a financial institution employee in August. The new variant is more stealthy than previous versions, allowing it to steal cryptocurrency wallet data and gain complete control over the device. Experts warn that the malware spreads through harmful ads and can compromise sensitive data, including Apple Notes, photo galleries, and app data. The malware can also extract Keychain data directly from the device, making it difficult for traditional security software to detect.
A recent hacking attack on Korean financial institutions has been linked to the use of artificial intelligence (AI)-based penetration testing tools and large language models.
According to a report by CrowdStrike Intelligence, the company identified infrastructure related to attacks conducted against Korean financial institutions from late September to early October 2026. The report analyzed files that remained accessible on the attacker's server, including configuration files for attack tools and AI work logs. Additionally, conversations attempting to find leak information sales outlets in Korea were confirmed.
IDC Frontier, a Japanese cloud service provider, was hit by a ransomware attack on October 7, affecting 495 customers.

CERT Polska has received a report of vulnerabilities in Dayforce Payroll software and coordinated the process of disclosing the information. The vulnerabilities were found to be exploitable.
The Dayforce Payroll software has been found to be vulnerable to three types of attacks: Time-Based Blind SQL Injection, Reflected XSS, and Path Traversal. The Time-Based Blind SQL Injection vulnerability allows an attacker to prepare a GET request with a parameter that is interpreted as part of a SQL query, leading to its execution. The Reflected XSS vulnerability enables an attacker to prepare a specially crafted URL, which, when opened, executes JavaScript code in the victim's browser. The Path Traversal vulnerability allows an attacker to send a GET request with a file path parameter that can be set to any path, including a local file path. The vulnerabilities were confirmed in version R2026.2.0, and may exist in other versions.
